'Jurassic Park' (1993)

'Jurassic Park' is a movie released in 1993 based on a novel of the same name written by Michael Crichton.  The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg.

Jurassic Park is about a unique theme park constructed on Isla Nublar by businessman John Hammond.  The theme park features live dinosaurs cloned from DNA fragments retrieved from the fossilized remains of real dinosaurs.  Set to open soon, Hammond invited a group of scientists to inspect the park before it opens its doors to the public. The scientists are played by Sam Neill as paleontologist Alan Grant, Laura Dern as paleobotanist Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm, a chaos theorist.

Figure 1.  In one scene, a Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) stumbled upon and devoured Jurassic Park lawyer Donald Gennaro.  This scene was spoofed by ToyHollywood.com in this video.

Hoping to give the scientists a good impression of the park so that they can help him sell the park to the public, Hammond lets them have a grand tour of the facility.  Everything started very well until the greed of a Jurassic Park computer programmer, Dennis Nedry, led to chaos of epic proportions - something that Ian Malcolm predicted right from the start based on the nature of the park's operations.

Nedry disables certain security features of the park in order to steal dinosaur embryos that he's planning to sell outside, setting the dinosaurs loose. Before long, the predators start hunting down the humans, with Nedry also becoming a casualty of his own indiscretion.

Figure 2.  This scene shows a T-Rex chasing the jeep of Malcolm, Sattler, and Muldoon. This was reenacted by ToyHollywood.com in this video.

Making up for its boring start, the rest of the movie provides non-stop action as the guests and employees try to run for their lives, until the survivors are able to escape the island in a helicopter.

Jurassic Park's landmark use of computer-generated imagery to produce very realistic dinosaurs on the screen is a 'first' in the industry, ushering a new era of computer effects in Hollywood. Jurassic Park grossed over $914M worldwide, making it the most successful film of Steven Spielberg.  Because of this success, it was followed by two more sequels: "The Lost World" (1997) and "Jurassic Park III" (2001).
