Understandably at odds at first, Riggs eventually earns Murtaugh's respect when he saved the latter's life during one assignment. But the road ahead of them simply gets tougher as they soon find themselves combating special troops of the Vietnam War (the Shadow Company) who are engaged in heroin smuggling. The illegal operation is headed by a retired general, Peter McAllister (played by Mitchell Ryan) and his enforcer Mr. Joshua (Gary Busey).
As Riggs and Murtaugh's investigation goes deeper, the Shadow Company tries to kill Riggs and kidnap Murtaugh's daughter Rianne. Unknown to the Shadow Company, Riggs has survived the attempt on his life, and is now helping Murtaugh rescue his daughter. The three are captured, and Murtaugh and Riggs are subjected to severe torture.
Needless to say, Riggs eventually frees himself heroically and helps Murtaugh and his daughter escape. They soon find themselves battling their opponents again. Team Riggs-Murtaugh wins of course, further cementing their friendship.
