'The Others' is a very creepy horror film that is set in New Jersey right after World War II. Directed by Spanish/Chilean director Alejandro Amenabar, it stars Nicole Kidman as Grace Stewart, a Catholic mother of two children who live with her in a huge and dark mansion.
Grace's children, Anne and Nicholas, suffer from a rare disease that makes them extremely sensitive to light, which is why the mansion is always kept in darkness. This situation keeps the movie eerie from start to end.

Three servants arrive to work for the lonely household - an old nanny named Bertha Mills, an aging gardener named Edmund Tuttle, and Lydia, a girl who couldn't talk. Their weird interaction with Grace, who shows signs of emotional and mental disturbance from time to time, has added to the mystery of the family's existence.
The over-protectiveness and high expectations of Grace have taken a toll on the two children, who are driven further away from their mother. Even her husband Charles, who has miraculously returned home after presumed being killed in the war, is not able to help with the situation. He soon leaves them again, much to the disappointment of Grace and the children.
Several outbursts from Grace are simply too much to bear, so Anne has decided to run away one night. Not wanting to be left alone in the mansion, Nicholas followed her. In the garden, they discover something that shocks them. Their servants, it turns out, have already been dead for many years. At this point, they see their 'ghost' servants approaching them while calling out to them. This makes them run back to the mansion as fast as they can.
The rest of the movie, reveals what this is all about - a psychological thriller that will play in the viewers' mind long after they see it.
