'When Harry Met Sally' is a romantic comedy movie released in 1989 starring Billy Crystal as Harry Burns and Meg Ryan as Sally Albright. Directed by Rob Reiner, the movie casually explores ideas about the man-woman relationships.
Harry is dating a friend of Sally's in 1977, paving the way for them to know each other. Harry carpools with Sally to New York where they both plan to start new careers. The long ride allows them to have deep (but funny) conversations about relationships. Harry theorizes that men and women can't ever be 'true' friends because every man wants to sleep with every woman he knows, to which Sally disagrees. Sally believes that a man and a woman can be strictly friends in act and in thought. They part without resolving the issue.
They meet again 5 years later at a New York airport. Sally is now dating Joe, an acquaintance of Harry. Harry is engaged to a woman named Helen. They recall their conversation in the car, but Harry has refined his old theory. They again agree that they can never be friends if that is how Harry thinks.
Five years later, Harry and Sally see each other in a bookstore. Their previous relationships have ended and wind up having conversations about relationships again while having coffee. This time, however, they agree to be friends. In fact, the movie unfolds showing them becoming very good friends. Best friends, in fact.

Their deep friendship evolves into a mutual attraction that each can no longer admit to the other. They suffer in silence as they see each other trying to form relationships with other people.
Then one day it happens - Sally and Harry find themselves in bed together after Harry has tried to comfort Sally who has just learned that her ex Joe is getting married. The awkwardness of the situation the next morning causes stress in their relationship, until they are driven away from each other.
But they soon realize that they are not just giving up a friendship - they are giving up life-long happiness of being with each other. At a New Year's party that year (which they have traditionally attended together), Harry walks up to Sally. Finally, they both admit that they love each other. The movie ends showing them as a married couple.
